Mics !!
Part of our collection of vintage Neumann microphones at ICP Studios, all of which were purchased from a well known German microphone technician named Andreas Grosser, now sadly passed away. At the time of the German unification in the ’80’s, Andreas discovered a treasure trove of top class microphones in East German broadcast stations, some dating as far back as the 1920’s, some of which are from the WWII era. We were lucky to have been looking to purchase at the right time as now these valuable pieces are very hard to find and sell for insanely high prices.
The two on the left are from the German Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht. They both have a Swastika under the eagle emblem, but as we used this image in our studio publicity, I thought it best to remove them (in Photoshop!)
Each mic was shot individually against the red background of the bar area in studio B and assembled in Photoshop to create a pano image, as I did with the guitars in “Axes!!”. The same red mic stand was used for each shot and I arranged the locking handles in post pro for symmetry.
All shots taken with EOS 5D MkI with EF 100 mm fixed focal. Lighting was with two Elinchrom 250 W flash heads in 60 cm soft boxes.
